Starting with the Right Foundation
Replacing the steps properly required more than covering the existing concrete with new materials. Cornerstone removed the complete precast assembly and poured a new footing to support the replacement masonry.
Before setting the first brick, the new steps were carefully laid out according to the height of the doorway and current code requirements. Establishing the rise, tread depth, and landing dimensions at the beginning created the foundation for a properly proportioned entry.
Mohawk Brick and Blue Mist Granite
Mohawk brick risers provide the traditional red and brown tones associated with classic New England masonry. Blue Mist granite was used for the treads and upper landing, creating a durable walking surface and a clean contrast against the brick.
Natural variations in the granite give each tread its own character while maintaining a consistent appearance across the completed entry.
A Complete Entry Transformation
The finished masonry steps are properly scaled to the home and provide a substantial upgrade from the deteriorated precast structure. What began as a worn and poorly configured entrance is now a custom brick and granite entry built from the footing up.
The homeowner was thrilled with the transformation, and the difference between the before and after photos speaks for itself.
