Designing Around the Existing Fireplace Doors
Adding stone veneer changed the finished depth around the fireplace opening. To reinstall the existing glass doors with a clean, flush fit, Cornerstone created a custom 1.5-inch granite picture frame around the firebox.
The granite provides a precise mounting surface for the doors while creating a clean transition into the surrounding stonework. This custom detail allowed an important existing component to be retained without compromising the finished design.

Lexington Blend Ashlar and Mosaic Stonework
The fireplace was finished with Lexington Blend stone veneer combining Ashlar and Mosaic patterns. Rectangular pieces provide structure while irregular shapes introduce natural movement, texture, and variation.
Careful placement around the granite frame, mantel, and room’s ceiling beams gives the stonework a balanced appearance that feels appropriate to the space.
Coordinated Granite Details
A granite mantel shelf creates a strong horizontal break between the upper and lower stonework. A matching granite hearth anchors the fireplace at floor level and completes the coordinated design.
The finished fireplace brings warmth and depth into the room while preserving the doors the homeowner wanted to keep. The homeowner was extremely happy with the result, and the progression from bare brick to finished stone shows the full extent of the transformation.
