Extending the Existing Fireplace
The original brick fireplace did not provide the warmth or visual presence the homeowner wanted. Cornerstone installed manufactured stone veneer over the existing masonry and extended the surround upward to meet the peaked ceiling.
The new floor-to-ceiling design better matches the scale of the room and draws attention to its height. A wood mantel creates a strong horizontal break while allowing the fieldstone pattern to remain the defining feature.
Making Manufactured Stone Look Natural
Cultured Stone Dressed Fieldstone combines varied shapes, textures, sizes, and colors, but achieving a convincingly natural result depends on how those pieces are arranged.
Each stone must be deliberately selected, oriented, and spaced to avoid obvious repetition. Cornerstone composed the veneer stone by stone, balancing larger pieces with smaller shapes to recreate the organic appearance of traditional fieldstone masonry.
The Warmth the Room Was Missing
The completed fireplace looks substantial without feeling overly formal. Warm earth tones complement the wood mantel, vaulted ceiling, and natural light while giving the living room the character the homeowner envisioned.
Although the material is manufactured, the thoughtful layout preserves the appearance and texture of a traditional fieldstone fireplace.
