Preparing the Existing Steps
The original painted steps could not simply be covered with granite. Adding 2-inch treads without altering the existing structure would have changed the riser heights and created an improperly proportioned entry.
Cornerstone stripped and repaired the existing concrete structure, then carefully cut down each step to account for the granite thickness. The treads were cut to specification before installation, preserving consistent riser heights from the walkway to the upper landing.
Blue Mist Granite and Boston Blend Ledgestone
Blue Mist granite creates substantial, clean-lined treads with the durability needed for a frequently used entrance. Its cool gray color provides a distinct contrast against the warmer tones and layered texture of the stone veneer.
Boston Blend Ledgestone thin stone was installed across the risers and exposed sides. Its narrow, varied pieces give the entry natural movement while connecting the steps visually with the surrounding New England landscape.
A Gift That Transformed the Entry
The completed steps combine technical precision with materials that make an immediate impression. The granite surfaces provide a refined finish, while the ledgestone gives the structure depth and character.
The result is an entry that makes a statement from the moment someone arrives. The family’s excitement when the project was completed said everything.
